Dr. Melanie Buttross, a board certified ophthalmologist, joined Eye Associates of Washington D.C. 25 years ago after her residency at George Washington University and her cornea fellowship at University of Florida.
She completed her undergraduate and medical training at Louisiana State University. She is an experienced cataract surgeon, skilled in the latest techniques including LensX laser guided technology.
She offers a wide range of implants for cataract surgery, including the Symfony IOL, for patients seeking youthful near and far vision thus decreasing the need for glasses. She provides comprehensive Ophthalmology care for all ages including dry eye disease and contact lenses.
Dr. Buttross has always made teaching a priority. She is clinical assistant professor in the Georgetown ophthalmology department and assists in training residents at the Washington Hospital Center as a senior attending. She has authored multiple publications and is on staff at Sibley Memorial Hospital.
Dr. Buttross is committed to helping others in need and serves on the Board of the Catholic Charities Health Care Network (CCHCN). Over the past 25 years, she has treated countless patients in the CCHCN and in the Arlington Free Clinic.
Dr. Buttross is consistently recognized as a leader in her field by Washingtonian Magazine (Top Doctors), Patient’s Choice Award and Northern Virginia Magazine. She is a member of the board of the John Carroll Society and a recipient of the Society’s Lifetime Service Award and the Pro Bono Health Care Award.
Dr. Buttross resides in McLean, VA, with her husband, Bill. They have two children. Claire, who is attending Duke University, and Will, who is attending University of Virginia.
