Dr. Ashburn completed medical school at Tulane University in New Orleans, followed by a general surgery internship at Wake Forest-Baptist Medical Center and ophthalmology residency back home at Georgetown. He then completed his glaucoma fellowship at the University of Virginia, where he trained in both tried-and-true as well as the latest techniques in glaucoma treatment. Dr. Ashburn has extensive experience in cutting-edge minimally invasive glaucoma procedures, including the Xen gel stent, OMNI device, and micropulse cyclophotocoaguation. In addition, he has performed thousands of cataract surgeries, employing the latest laser-guided technology and premium intraocular lenses designed to minimize or eliminate the need for glasses.
Dr. Ashburn has authored several scholarly articles and regularly volunteers his time to teach residents as an attending at Georgetown University Hospital and Washington Hospital Center. He has been named an “Emerging Leader” by the Prevention of Blindness Society of Metropolitan Washington.
In his spare time, Dr. Ashburn loves cooking, eating, and spending time outdoors with his wife, Christy (a local pediatrician), and three children. An avid hockey player, he also coaches youth hockey.
