Dr. Stro Ashburn is a fellowship-trained glaucoma specialist and cataract surgeon. He is board-certified by the American Board of Ophthalmologists. Born and raised in Washington, DC, he was exposed to ophthalmology at an early age through his father, Dr. Frank Ashburn, Jr, with whom he performed numerous glaucoma screenings around the country.
He attended the University of Richmond, where he met his wife, pediatrician Dr. Christy Ashburn. Following a year of bench research at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, MD, he attended Tulane University School of Medicine, graduating in 2012. Dr. Ashburn completed a general surgery internship at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center before returning home to Georgetown University and Washington Hospital Center to complete his ophthalmology residency. Dr. Ashburn then moved on to the University of Virginia for his glaucoma fellowship, where he trained in the latest minimally-invasive techniques for glaucoma surgery. He returns to Washington as one of the only surgeons in the area certified in the XEN glaucoma micro-stent procedure.
Dr. Ashburn enjoys hiking, running, cooking and eating in his spare time. He is an avid hockey player and supporter of the Stanley Cup Champion Washington Capitals.
He and his wife have one young daughter, Amina, and a son, Stro Jr.
