As a long time Washington, DC native, Dr. Ashburn, Jr. joined Eye Associates in 1981.
He received his undergraduate degree from Yale University in 1969. He graduated Alpha Omega Alpha from Georgetown University Medical School in 1973. He completed his residency in Ophthalmology at Georgetown and his fellowship in Glaucoma at Barnes Hospital in St. Louis.
Dr. Ashburn is actively involved in helping underserved areas receive medical care. He is Medical Director of Friends of the Congressional Glaucoma Caucus Foundation, which screens 50,000 people a year with 17 mobile vans. Dr. Ashburn is a charter member of the American Glaucoma society and Past president of the International Eye Foundation. He is currently involved in clinical studies that study different glaucoma drugs and dry eyes.
Dr. Ashburn uses the latest techniques and technology in his cataract and glaucoma surgery, including laser cataract surgery. He has been recognized by Washingtonian’s Top Doctors for many years.
He has been performing cataract surgery using the FDA approved Symfony IOL and laser cataract surgery using the LENSX laser.
He and his wife reside in DC. They have four grown children.
